I've been fined for everything in Holland. Chucking a cigarette out of a car window when driving, peeing on a perfectly pee-able object when drunk, even putting my dustbin out a day early. It's terrible.

But back to litter - in general, it depends on the size of the object and promiximity of a dustbin. If there's one within say, thirty yards, I'll always chuck whatever I have in there. If I have a small scrunched up piece of paper in my hand and there's no dustbin anywhere, chances are I'll chuck it in the bushes. But if I have, say, an empty two-pint bottle of coke, I won't just throw that into the undergrowth. In that case I'll always wait til I see a trash can.
