Lots of kinds. I generally avoid R&B, god-awful pop (::cough:: Backstreet Boys and the rest of that niche), electronica, and country.

Depends what I'm doing. Classical (Handel, Bach, and Tchaikovsky) when I'm writing papers, hard rock when I'm writing papers late at night and falling asleep , rap or eighties power pop when I'm pumping myself up for some sports.

I'd have to list Fleetwood Mac as my favourite band, followed by Great Big Sea. Melodic enough to listen to on long bus trips and not get a headache, but also catchy and rhythmical enough to keep you awake and interested.

I've recently gone in for instrumentals, mainly Latino, but also guitar whizzes like Jonny Lang and Tommy Emmanuel (thanks, Yorick!).
