I, personally think that Diablo (1) was amazing. Absolutely incredible. It was the first RPG i played. It was what got me into RGP/fantasy. Eerrie, creepy, dark, mysterious, gothic. Awesome music, especially the guitar solo in town. The story was magnificent. period. The quests were interesting. And were random. Well, most of them. The guy's who read the books voice was just _PERFECT_ and made an even darker atmosphere. I know "Halls of the Blind" by heart, and it is one of my favorite poems ever.
Diablo 2, on the other hand, had more player balance(I loved being the "Battle Mage" as i reffered to my legit lvl32 single-player warrior), was a lot longer but-- it lost the "Diablo" feel. Only the movies kept it interesting, i think. So what do _you_ say? Which of the two you favor?
btw:
I can see what you see not,
Vision milky then eyes rot.
When you turn they will be gone,
Whispering their hidden song.
Then you see what cannot be,
Shadows move where light should be!
Out of darkness, out of mind:
Cast down into the halls of the blind.

You are absolutely and completely right, trex! Diablo 1 was a highlight! I learned the halls of the blind poem by heart too, cause Iīs fascinated like you, I think. And this is exactly what Diablo II lacks: the atmosphere. Itīs just too colorful and bright. Even in a dark dungeon itīs never really creepy. I was very disappointed by DII, although there were many improvements. But they forgot about the main thing in a good rpg: style!
