I've noticed that in many styles. I think it comes down to the person more than the size. A good centre of balance. Also served well when learning Horse Riding (I'd faced huge blokes in tournaments, so a horse was NOT scary). I find Aikido is good when I mix it with other moves. It makes me more unpredictable. These days I prefer to disable than hit anyway (my old Thug mentality replaced by a few meditative states of mind)
