Not in the least, most of the people I know that like coding, either have no jobs, or jobs in completely different areas. All you need is an interest, and be able to focus on the subject (I often find myself drifting off when trying to learn )but by all means, have a go. The way I see it, the only way Linux will ever be comparable to windows(I dont mean that in a bad way, I mean that in a compatability way, ie, games and such) is if more people jump on board and code new stuff
