Question Mark

There is some correlation between central pressure and hurricane strength, although this doesn't always hold true. The lower the central pressure, the stronger the high-pressure winds around the eye wall rush in to equalize the pressure difference. The true source of all hurricane strength, though, is water temperature; the warmer the water the more heat and energy the hurricane absorbs.

Hurricanes generally release anywhere from 5 megatons to 20 megatons (or more) of energy each minute! I was discussing elsewhere back during Katrina about some people who thought that detonating nuclear devices to diffuse a hurricane's strength. We would have to fire all our nuclear weapons at only one hurricane and maybe--just maybe--we could do something to it. But probably not...except to heat up the water even more and create a category 6.
