After opening it up and checking the drive belt, everything looked okay, and I even manually pulled the light over to the other end just to see if it would return back to its start position when powered up. It did return with no strange noises or anything like that, but still would not move forward on its own. Maybe the forward-motion engine has kapoot. Ah well...looks like I'll have to get another scanner...a needed tool in my home but not one that I wanted to replace at this time. Mostly because I think my dryer overheated today! There is no end to the misery.
