He then led a highly successful campaign, winning the Battle of the Wilderness against the French, guaranteeing the English loss of the colonies through sheer military might. The King just gave up and cried, pretending nothing had happened, and the rest of England didn't know America had annexed France until after the French Revolution of 1905.
