Heh, I sometimes know when I'm dreaming... usually it's when the dream is just incredibly nice, like still being with a girl who left me or that I'm being extremely sucessfull in life... then I find myself thinking, hey this is too unreal, too good to be true, must be a dream... and ofcourse I wake up then from the dream...
