Thanks for the birthday wishes all .

And yes Wellard, the Woods boys have been great hosts, and I am enjoying the pub food and atmosphere immensely (BTW - I never realised the fantastic sobering effects of a late late night curry - I do not believe I am not sufferiung sore head furry tongue syndrome this morning). Donut has also been demonstrating that he is right handy in the kitchen too . Went to Highbury with the boys to buy the new commemorative shirt and get my photo taken with the FA Cup and all.

As for the Ashes - well the boys are still very optimistic - 315 to say an improbable 400 seems completely gettable in a last innings in their eyes because there are 3 days left and they can take their time and it is only a 3rd day pitch.

There were 6 of us drinking last night, and only one (a guy called Bob) seemed in touch with the fact that the pitch is playing tricks like a last day pitch, the ball jags about off the famous slope, sides rarely score better than 250 in a 4th innings, and that McGrath, Warne, and Lee just will not be havin none of that. I was howled down for rating their chances at no more that 15%. Then again I was also howled down for suggesting that the 190 we scored in the first innings would be enough for a first innings lead .

And despite our chortling over Mr "Get a bag" Pietersen, I contine to be reassured by the locals that he is a demon in the field and that they ain't never seen him drop a catch before this
