Generally Torontonians are shunned because they have the potential to be Leaf fans.
One rule of thumb in Canada: Never, ever admit that you are a Leaf fan outside of Toronto! This is a surefire way of getting lynched. Even on the internet, Leaf fans have been known to "mysteriously disappear!"
