Also, right click on the main executable file and click on properties. Click on the memory tab. There are usually two type of memory that are defaulted to '0', while all of the rest are 'auto' or some value. Change those two that are '0' to 'auto'. I have found that most dos games that I have are playable on Windows XP by changing the compatability and the memory settings.
