3: for recording to analog then digital, VHS tapes are analog (unless you have a Digital video recorder on the camera), thus the reason for quality loss when making copies, as soon as they are on your PC (or going into the recorder) they will become Digital
for #4... check out the manufacturer's site and it's technical forums, I'm sure users have posted ways to get around that, and if not, post your question, and they will most likely answer you. (that or the guy making the review tried to illegally copy a protected video and had an axe to grind)
since the camera is digital you shouldn't notice a problem if you connect if to your PC and use some video capture software to transfer it (then burn to DVD) at least that's what I do here at work.
