Sounds like ADD (attention deficit disorder) to me, not ADHD (attention deficit hyperactive disorder). Thats exactly what I used to suffer from (and still somewhat do)... I just go blank. Someone could be talking to me, and I'm not interested so I just start thinking of other things. Sucks ass in exams and the like.
I would tell your friend to go get analysed by a psychotherapist (or whatever the relevant doctor is). Hell, just tell her to go to her local GP and explain the situation, and inform the doctor that she'd like to be tested for ADD. As far as I remember (over 10 years ago) the tests are all mental, there were no physical exams or anything (ie - needles) to be afraid of. Except maybe the bill.
