First thing I'd check, Callum, is to see if the OS recognizes the CD-ROM. You can see that at boot time; if it doesn't stay around long enough to read, you'll have to do the delete/F1 thing to get into the BIOS. That will show you all the devices.

You do need to make sure that multiple devices on one IDE ribbon have a slave and a master. If you don't... well, I'd expect neither device to work, but I'm not sure.

You also need to make sure it's properly connected. That includes pulling and reseating *both* ends of the ribbon cable, as well as pulling and reseating the power cable. Remember that the red stripe goes next to power...

If that doesn't work, then tell us what you did in between when it worked and when it didn't...
