There is another version of this that works on the same principle. They only differ in one line. I learned this from my year 10 math teacher:

Let a = b
a2 = ab
a2 - b2 = ab - b2
(a + b)(a - b) = b(a - b)
a + b = b
Let a = 1, thus b = 1 (since b = a),
1 + 1 = 1
2 = 1
