I tend to do that to differing degrees depending on how much gold I need from selling stuff. I don't generally find a house though, but rather use my Stronghold as a stockpile. My most enjoyable means of stockpiling stuff is when I play a Thief & sell everything to my own little shopkeeper - every once in a while I'll look over his inventory with a strange sense of enjoyment at what a cool little magic shop I've assembled... heh...
