Recently Stormy put up an ahem... "controversial" fake news report... So I thought this was totally appropriate. Mum was reading the paper downstairs when she mentioned this funny news story in the Sun Herald (issue September 12th, 2004 page 17). Its an Australian paper (national I think)

Anyways, here is the story. Its similar to Stormy's one, but true, and less.. well.. offensive to those that did get offended from Stormy's.

BINGO FANS BEAT OFF KNIFE BANDIT:

It was a most unlikely crime scene. At a church-run bingo night in a parish hall, two bandits launched a bid for the $14,000 kitty. And they may have succeeded but for the stout resistance of a group of senior citizens, including, as a policemen put it, "an old biddy in her 80s armed with a walking stick".

Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church's weekly bingo night in Vine Street, Fairfield, was raided on August 28. A security guard was assaulted by two armed men in the car park before one fled, leaving the other - wearing a baseball catcher's mask - to attempt the robbery alone. Weilding a knife, the man grabbed the cash from a table before the bingo co-ordinator tackled him and an angry mob joined in.

A 54-year-old woman who witnessed the drama said: "It was mostly women holding him down. One of the women grabbed the knife off him and they were hitting him everywhere."

Police laid car theft, assault, robbery and drug charges against the 26-year-old man.
