D*Ranged, I'm not sure why you're changing the weapons between the two characters. To make the test fair, the equipment should be the same (i.e. both wielding Angurvadal and the Answerer in this case - although there are much better choices for these kits than this setup)
The blade would undeniably be able to beat a swashbuckler with the correct buffing. Granted, the swashbuckler has superior combat abilities, but magical backup makes the blade one of the most powerful classes in the game.
Quote:
Blade casts Mislead, Swashbuckler goes Stealth. They run in circles around Waukeen's Promenade trying to hear each other's footsteps while Imoen rots somewhere out there and evil takes over the world.

Except that mislead only lasts a finite time, and the swashbucklers stealth will constantly keep checking against the hide/move silently skills (failing if the blade - invisible or not - is within visual range of the swashbuckler)
In terms of toughness, they have identical base THAC0, saving throws, HP etc. The swashbuckler will have superior mainhand THAC0 (due to proficiency and kit bonuses) and AC, but the blade can protect himself from the swashbucklers attacks with protection from magical weapons, protection from normal weapons, blur, stoneskin, mirror image, improved invisibility etc, and then cast improved haste to get double the APR over the swashbuckler.
