Ah but that would be like saying England are the best athletics nation because they have Radcliffe. Armstrong is to cycling, what a super marathon runner is to athletics. Endurance. Strength. Heart. Speed at crucial legs, but reliant on endurance, endurance endurance.
The volodrome has tactics, pure speed over various distances. Team events, individual events. Australia won the TEAM pursuit for example.
Britain got silver.
Armstrong is a freak, no doubt. I think he's an incredible cyclist, and incredible human. No disrespect. But that is, as said, his main event. And what an event the tour de France is!
