The difference?
English muffins are only fit to be in eggs benedict and other similar dishes (not sure about the pizza thing, but I'll bow to Bungleau's voice of experience). They're too flimsy and white-breadish for me otherwise.
Scones are great when they are warmed in the oven (or toaster, or toaster oven) and served with jam.
The similarity?
Both are vile when prepared improperly. Particularly scones. But they're extremely tasty when done right.
