My tips to you: Enjoy the game while it lasts, and don't get run anywhere. Play the game through from mission to mission, and don't listen to those arseholes who say that it's only doable 'one way'. It's fairly easy to do the missions before crystal desert using almost any kind of decent build, as long as you play intelligently.
Unfortunately, I play usually at nighttime, GMT-5h00, so it'll be kind of hard for us to play together.

There are 24 missions in all, each taking about usually a half hour to an hour to complete. That's the 'main storyline' in other RPGs. There are many quests, so don't sweat about levelling your character; it'll level up plenty fine if you just go about the game normally. But there really is no roleplaying in this game that I could find.
