And the Wand of Cloudkill is not to be overlooked. Stacking Clouds is a mighty tactic.
Besides... i think that if you're quick enough, you can actually cast something from a scroll. So you can do the boring-but-may-work "enter room, cast spell from a scroll, exit room, enter room, ..." routine.
