I have a question - is it playable at all on dial-up?

Now my broadband is coming at long last (connected in the exchange now but the ISP is still in the process of mailing me the router - they ran out of the you beaut model I selected). I tried twice to play on dial-up but boot-up took about 10 mins and then taking about 3 or 4 steps took about 2 mins each. Would this be only a function of the dial-up, cos my system specs would be well in advance of minimum (512 MB Ram and 128 MB GE T1 4200)? Is there something else I should check for?
