My tailor is doing fine making 10-slot bags, and had just as much luck with the 8-slot bags. I also took skinning for sheer profit (and the 10 slot requires heavy leather)
So far skinning has made me more money than tailoring, but there's no way I'll be able to get my mount at 40. One good thing about having both is that most monsters will yield either leather or a silk/wool (etc). The undead of Duskwood set me back quite a bit though, as they're basically good-for-nothings lol.
Grinding is profitable...but it makes me quit playing for several days whenever I do it too much hehe.
If you do get frusterated and take a gathering skill, I have two things you should consider. You WILL have to take on 0-xp mobs if you take skinning. You might have better luck finding herbs, BUT, are these even worth anything to anyone? I didn't get my alchemist/herbalist up very high (13), but I never got anyone to pay me anything for a potion, so I sure wasn't going to pay any amount of money to raise a profit-less skill. Nor did I need to, as I had more potions than I could even give away. It's the curse of playing at night I guess lol.
