Except gold anybody can pick up any pile of gold and automatically it is divided equally between the team or group no mater which one of you pick it up. Then a message will say the team has just picked up 20 gold and when you look at the spot on your screen where you keep count of your gold you will see you portion has been added to your total

It's the exact same thing in WOW.
