I'm not much of a linux user, and I usually end up fighting with my system every time I need to mount my usb pen drive...

however, latest linux releases (e.g. mandrake 9.0) automatically recognize USB drives, you just need to mount them (/dev/sda or sda1, usually).
Just one warning: you'd better use fat32, because of linux not being able to properly write NTFS (or so I heard), and you need to format the fat32 drive from linux, not WIN whatever, otherwise it will complain that the drive is badly formatted.
