How are you trying to open it? From the Open File dialogue (where you navigate the folder tree to get to it), or the Recently Used file list?
I have run into problems where I moved things from one directory to another, which broke the file list. But navigating to the file, or double-clicking on it in Explorer, should open that particular file up.
If it doesn't, I'd start looking for spyware or malware, and then determine if I need to reinstall Office or not.
