I had to have my engagement ring resized a few times to get it right and I do take it off at night during the summer since it gets snug then.
I take it off when I'm doing any involved cooking or gardening too, partly as it gets caught and partly to avoid losing it or mucking it up and having to clean it.

Two things.... The ring for engineers I found out is only a Canadian thing. (I was surprised myself).
On the other hand ( no pun intended )...I used to wear a ring to work that saved me some pain and anguish. I moving some heavy boxes of lard (yup, used to work at a fish and chips store). As I was stacking the boxes, I slipped and dropped a couple of the boxes with my fingers underneath them. When it happend, I thought "This is gonna hurt". But it didn't hurt too bad. Anyways, later that night, I noticed that the ring I work was warped from circular to oval and I figured out that the ring had saved my fingers.
