You know the saying, 'Familiarity breeds contempt'?
In sort of an unrelated roundabout way, I've seen similar desensitization concerning children and alcohol. I work with a guy, whose redneck qualities are at the 'peak' of their evolutionary perfection [img]graemlins/hehe.gif[/img] . Anyways, he's got a five year old and a two year old. He's building a new house, and when he finishes at the end of the day, he sits back in a lawn chair in front of the bits and pieces of what will someday be a house. While relaxing, he prefers to have a can of what he calls 'The Drink of the Gods'
a.k.a. Keystone Light. That's all good and well for him, but he has his five year old run over to the cooler and fetch him beers one at a time. Besides being demeaning, he's reinforcing behaviour that associates pleasure with alcohol, in a five year old. I mean, a man( person for you P.C. snobs) should be allowed to have a drink, but it seems wrong to be employing your five y.o. to
fetch it for you. Crass.
