AOL is very very bad, if you can get some better servace (and lets face it that is almost every other one), do.
since you probably wont do that, get Adaware and Spybot S&D and run them i suspect your clogged up with Spyware (not technically a virus i dont think).
if that still doesnt work, make sure youve defragmented + scandisked + have some free space for your page file on your OS hard disk
