The single BEST class for bg1 would have to be fighter or paladin.
Simply because they are tough and will survive the beginning.
The best class in my op.....if u plan to conquer the realms in bg2 and throne of bhaal...a fighter....stats as follows
18/00 or something close
18 dex
18 con
17 int
8 wis
10 char
True neutral
Dual classed to a mage at about level 21 22 (once u are in throne of bhaal)
Adventure on ny friend
