Actually, flash, though it's an internet-freindly program, has many differint aspects. you can make anything in flash from a website to a movie to a game to an artifical intelligence. It intereractings with Java, HTML, Visual Basic, Javascript, XML, and more! Because of this flexibility, it's a usefull internet tool which only a few individuals have managed to get their hands on (mainly due to its incredible price) but mroe and more people are getting into it. What flash needs is a cross betwen engieneers and artists. Flash is being used to make TV Shows (See Camp Chaos on VH1, Kid Notorious on Comedy Central and Yakety Yak on Nickelodeon). Anyway, Flash games don't have to be website-freindly, infact they can be incredibly huge! It's usually the small and addictive ones, however, that end up becoming extremely popular (See Bejuweld, Pong, The Micheal Jackson Baby Toss). Anyway, long-story-short, Flash games can do more than websites can, because websites in flash generally have to keep to a small loading time, nobody likes to sit and wait for their site to load, really.

Oh and if you'd like an example of a Flash-type-game that I recently did:
