[Quick Tech Answer] I hate static too. There could be lots of different reasons for hearing static. The obvious ones are:
- make sure your mic playback volume is 0 i.e. it could be that the mic is on and feeding back to your speakers.
- Your volume is too high.
- The winamp equaliser is set to amplify high-frequency sounds too much. Take the treble down a bit - see if that helps.
- The recording of the song is crap - lots of high-frequency noise so use a low-pass filter to get rid of it with a nice sound-editing program.
- You're using the wrong drivers?
- Your sound card is just crap in which case a new one might fix the problem. But check the others first.
Probably lots of other possibilities too but can't think of any more now.
