Just kick it up two or three times so the ball's in the air, then balance yourself, keep your head over the ball, and smack it with the outside of your foot. Experiment with this a few times, varying in where you place your foot against the ball - try further towards the point then further down the side of your foot - you'll see the change in the curve reflected in this. It's not hard this way, but it's tricky if the ball's on the ground. Taking a good free kick with the outside of your foot is, for example, pretty difficult.
