IIRC there were actually three sun gods, Ra, Aton and Amun (Amon). They represented the rising sun (Aton?), midday sun (Ra), and setting sun (Amon?). I may have the rising and setting sun ones mixed up though
. All enjoyed various periods of eminence in Egyptian society.
