If you're going to do this, make sure you choose the option that keeps filtered mail for a week before deleting, and check it every week to make sure non-spam hasn't been filtered out. It does pick up most spam, but it often thinks non-spam is spam as well. For instance, it filters mail from other hotmail addresses
Definitely agree with Paladin re not signing up to things. If you're going to do that, a good idea is to get yourself a nonserious address, like a hotmail account, which you use to sign up to newsgroups, amazon.com, othe online shops and so on. And only use it for that, so whatever spam you get there doesn't matter. Then keep your serious address for people you trust only and never publish it anywhere. That way you can check your hotmail account every week or so and forward anything important to your real address and ignore all the spam.
