I've read that DVD burners can be very particular about the brand of DVD they write to. For best results (or reliable results!), it seems wise to stick to the more expensive, brand-name discs.

It *could* be buffer underrun. Does your DVD manual anywhere saw that the drive is protected from buffer underrun? Does the software mention this?

If it doesn't, try burning a DVD with nothing else running in the background.
