Actually when I was in High School, he came to the school to perform, and played a conventional drum kit at one point. So he's most definitely a drummer, and a very good one at that.

Of course, he's also the best finger-picking guitarist in the world. And yet here's he's being a percussionist.

So the answer is all three! Guitarist, percussionist, drummer. A multi-instrumentalist!

I've found that guitarists who play drums have fantastic rhythm. I know a number of them. I myself play both drums and guitar too. The drumming helps!
