Make WoW Look So Much Better

Ok, the backdoor way to get WoW looking really awesome.

First, examples.

First image is on full settings with everything in the video option.

This image is full settings in video, and the console commands.

To do this, put your WoW settings on full.

Then make a macro -

/console groundEffectDensity 256
/console groundEffectDist 140
/console detailDoodadAlpha 100
/console horizonfarclip 2112
/console farclip 777
/console characterAmbient 0
/console smallcull 0
/console skycloudlod 3

Drag to your toolbar and click.

If your FPS drops too much, or you dont like it, make another macro to turn it off.

/console groundEffectDensity 16
/console groundEffectDist 1
/console horizonfarclip 1305
/console farclip 177
/console characterAmbient 1
/console smallcull 1
/console skycloudlod 1
/console detailDoodadAlpha 1

Just a note, it can bog down some PCs, especially in the zones it really makes a difference in (like STV, Zangarmarsh etc). Outlands puts more load on the Gfx than Azeroth as well.

Another example in a better zone -

Awesome! I assume this is a new feature due to the upgrade in grpahics of WotLC? Anyways, looks amazing and is a nice bonus for those of us with great cards that want to push them against WoW's old graphics, since it has started to look slightly dated.

No, its always been in the game.

But a friend asked me today how I did it, and I realised I never shared it on here.

It was a backdoor (so to speak) thing put in by the designers as a way to improve the graphics manually. They didnt put it in the video options as they didnt want to overload systems.

Just the designers who had 10k pcs or whatever wanted to play it FULLY.

As I do. After a few years, most of us who had systems that couldn't hack those settings, now do, as technology moves up. Thanks for sharing this, will make my WoW experience much better!

Do all regular video sliders/settings need to be maxed for this to work, or is this just a suggestion? I am just wondering, as some settings I don't like to use. I guess I am asking, will this work anytime regardless of how maxxed your generic settings are?

I'm not sure...

I just believe they have to be maxed, to avoid conflict with some parts of the graphics. Just what I was told.

Try it I guess :P

I'd love to do this, but I'm already running WoW on max settings and getting about 55+fps (half that in Shatt) and I'd hate to slow it down...
