Weird News.... July 08

Pair caught skinny dipping in Portland reservoir
PORTLAND, Ore. - Two people caught skinny dipping in a Portland reservoir that is a main source of water for the city nearly caused officials to dump millions of gallons of water and close the facility.

Ryan Langsdorf, 28, and Ashley Moyer, 23, were found in one of two sections of the Mount Tabor Reservoir at about 3 a.m. Saturday during a spell of unusually hot weather. They were cited for trespassing.

But the two were swimming in a section of the reservoir that was not being used. Had that section been in use, water bureau officials say they would have had to dump millions of gallons of water from that pool and possibly shut off the reservoir.

Earlier this year, millions of gallons of water were dumped when someone put latex paint, a construction cone and hundreds of flyers into the water.
Hey.... People drink that stuff, you know!

No word on whether pictures are available... ;)

Man accused of strolling in thong, fake breasts
MANCHESTER, Conn. - A Manchester man has been arrested after he allegedly strolled along Interstate 291 wearing nothing but a thong, fake breasts and a wig. Police say they received several calls about the man, which prompted an hour-long search over the weekend.

Police said they found the suspect Saturday fully clothed and collecting cans behind a business in Manchester. Police said they also found a wig and fake breasts in the man's car.

The man, 42, was charged with disorderly conduct and simple trespass. He's free after posting $2,500 bail.
Thankfully, there's no video available on this. I mean, how would you explain it?

"Why were you walking around in a thong and falsies?"

"Uhmmmm.... I lost the bet?"

Rogue giraffe leads mass circus breakout
Monday, June 30, 2008
Giraffes: master escapologists
Fifteen camels, two zebras and several llamas and pot-bellied pigs escaped from a circus visiting Amsterdam early on Monday, police said.
'We suspect that a giraffe kicked open a pen,' Dutch police said in a statement, adding that the animals did not get far before they were rounded up and returned to the circus.
Should have left them free, they evidently didn't like the circus life

Nude airline to soar nakedly
Tuesday, January 29, 2008
German nudists will be delighted to know that they can now be nude at a higher altitude than ever before, as an airline launches special nude flights.

The flights of nakedness are a nostalgic throwback to the days of Communism in East Germany, when naturism was permitted and found widespread popularity. The company, OssiUrlaub.de, is specifically targeting former East Germans pining for their old, clothing-optional ways.

The company's founder, Enrico Hess, said: 'In the former East Germany, naturist holidays were a much-loved way of spending the best weeks of the year.'
Not even sure what I can add to this

A few years back, my wife and I were visiting her uncle in Germany. We took a trip into Austria and back, and while stopping at a roadside park, saw a gentleman who had decided it was a good time to take a bath.

Just walked into the lake, stark naked, with his soap and shampoo. Used both. We didn't stay around to watch him leave...

Woman crashes into store then tries to buy beer
NORWALK, Calif. - A convenience store became an unwilling drive-in when a 74-year-old woman plowed her car through the front window and then tried to buy a six-pack of Budweiser, police and the owner said.

Lynne Rice of Norwalk drove her 1988 Cadillac into Joe's Food Mart and Video on Sunday evening, Los Angeles County sheriff's Lt. Jenny Ha said.

The car plowed about halfway through the store but nobody was injured. Rice got out of the car, walked over to the cooler and pulled out a six-pack of Budweiser beer, said the store owner, who gave only his last name, Awada, to the Long Beach Press-Telegram.

"I don't know how she managed to walk," Awada said, adding a cashier declined the sale and instead called police.

Rice was taken to a hospital for examination because she had a pre-existing medical condition, Ha said.

She was also arrested for investigation of misdemeanor driving under the influence and released on $15,000 bail, authorities said.

Rice could not be reached for comment Tuesday. There was no telephone listing with her name in Norwalk.

Awada said the crash destroyed two 6-foot-wide glass panels. Damage was put at about $8,000.
Ermmm... since she's 74, I'll skip the usual "alcohol's gotta be involved" bit, and instead, find myself midway between "old drivers losing their ability to drive" and "at least she had her priorities straight" ;)

Man accused of hitting mom with Polish sausage
DELAND, Fla. - A man was charged with battery after he hit his mother in the head with a three-pound package of Polish sausage, police said.

Gregory Allen Praeger, 46, was in the kitchen cooking and talking on the phone when officers arrived Saturday night. His mother told police he had been drinking and arguing with her, then picked up the package of sausage and hurled it, grazing her head. She was not badly hurt and did not have to go to the hospital.

Praeger confirmed his mother's story, police said. He was held on $500 bond, according to jail records, which did not list an attorney. Deland is about 20 miles from Daytona Beach.
In a related story, a 46-year-old man was grounded for two weeks for not playing nice...

Alleged burglar sheds clothes, flees in shorts
STUART, Fla. - Police say a man took off his clothes, broke into a home and fled in shorts belonging to the female resident. The woman who lives at the home said a man woke her up Saturday night by banging on her front door.

She said she called 911 after he broke in through her second-floor balcony.

When a deputy arrived, he found a bicycle on the ground behind the house. He also found pants and underwear on the balcony floor.

Other deputies spotted the 30-year-old man walking along a main road wearing tight blue shorts, later identified as belonging to the woman.

The man was charged with burglary, petit theft, criminal mischief and trespass. His bond was set at $11,250.
Okay, d'yer think alcohol was involved in *this* one?

Ya gotta wonder how well those shorts would fit, and whether or not he was "trading up" his wardrobe....
