Yahtzee on Oblivion
It's two years late, but it's nice to know that my own thoughts on Oblivion's shortcomings are shared by the coolest games reviewer. :D
http://www.escapistmagazine.com/vide...on/75-Oblivion Language warning, as is standard for aynthing that Yahtzee does. |
Re: Yahtzee on Oblivion
OH my God this guy is a hoot! I just spent the last 10 minutes watching them and I loved the Witcher

Re: Yahtzee on Oblivion
As usual, Yahtzee is spot on.
@toot033: I nearly spit out my drink when I watched that one and he started talking about the cards. |
Re: Yahtzee on Oblivion
Too late, much much too late. He should have reviewed the game weeks after it came out.
I do agree with some of what he says though. |
Re: Yahtzee on Oblivion
The escapist magazine has been slipping in quality for a long time, I think. You only have to search for threads where the editor was defending Oblivion and Bethesda against the very insistent arguments of their detractors in the light of the same engine being used to create Fallout 3. Also their reviewer of the Witcher hadn't even bothered to complete the game!
Whilst Yahtzee is a half decent comedian, I don't think you could call him a great reviewer/journalist. I also don't think he's that keen on RPGs in general... As it's become more progressively 'cooler' on forums to criticise Oblivion for its shortcomings, you could argue that many of the once celebratory sites are now engaging in the 'Rybicki Maneuver'. http://www.nma-fallout.com/article.php?id=37708 Sorry Yahtzee, but you're a bit too slow to the party. Check out threads even here from when the hype machine was at its peak with Oblivion. I think enough members were skeptical and it has proven justified. For a better written, more sincere critical analysis of Oblivion that was contemporary - look no more than Vault Dweller's review at the RPGcodex: http://www.rpgcodex.net/content.php?id=129 P.S: G'day Sev! |
Re: Yahtzee on Oblivion
Hey Cerebro. :) As you can probably tell by the 3 week gap, i don't venture into IW as much a i used to. I'm still leading an alliance in the war torn NW quadrant of the s6 game world. Which is to say, still living under a Travian rock. ;)

Re: Yahtzee on Oblivion
I'm the same, mate - there has been a slow decline in the abundance of interesting threads on IW for the last year or so, but I still pop in now and again and reply here or there - or to spend some spare time in the arcade! (Which with Pacman when Mozilla isn't acting up, is a bit too regular!)

Re: Yahtzee on Oblivion
That was hilarious! But I am well sucked into Oblivion. Must go...got loads of shooting and looting to do.
