Munich
A year ago I started this thread
Hitchhiking and this Split Well, this year on the 1st of May starts the 11th edidtion of the hitchhiking competition, and I'm taking part again :). This year's destination is Munich (starting point is Sopot, Poland). As usual it's 2-people teams. First team to reach the destination wins. The distance is around 730km (450 miles), though we probably won't be going in a straight line there. Wish me luck. And if by some chance any of you wants to take part there is still time to sign up :D. According to the weather report it's supposed to rain in Poland on the 1st-4th of May :(. I sure hope I won't have to wait for hours outside... though rain can actually cause the drivers to have pity and stop, so maybe it's not so bad after all. |
Re: Munich
Or if anyone knows of any good places to visit while in Munich, or can tell me where to look, I'd be grateful for this too.

Re: Munich
Nice! somehow i missed these threads last year but its gonna be awesome :)
We actually had this in 2nd year of uni, Starting in Nottingham England we had to get a far away as possible without spending a penny and the uni would finance your trip back. Also travelling in pairs fo safety and so you dont get too bored on the side of the road :P Well we got as far as Bucharest (Romania), which is 1364.04 miles and 2195.15 Kilometres in 24 hours with only spending £20 on food. Was such a fun trip, my advice is look for truckers, nice spacious cabs and get you a long way :) We actually went down the line in Dover asking every trucker where he was heading and if we could dive in. It was suprisingly easy and everyone wants to help in a cool challenge like this :) |
Re: Munich
Hey I'm back.
I've been in Munich on the hitchhiking competition, then in Poland, then after coming back to Ireland I didn't have much time to post in IW. ElfBane, thanks for the info! Anyway, we've managed to reach Munich from Sopot in 26 hours. We came 22nd. And seeing how there were 162 teams registered this is a pretty decent result :) We used 10 cars in total. Out of the 162 registered, I think only 150-something started. Later we learnt that only 86 reached the destination, which is strange, seeing how getting to Munich isn't that difficult. The winners reached there in just over 17 hours. Anyway, overall it was great. We reached the place 2pm on Friday and were too tired to really go anywhere so we just strolled about the city centre a bit. On saturday we went to see the Neuschwanstein. The place is great. Took us whole day though. We had planned to go back Sunday morning by train, but seeing how we haven't really seen anything in Munich yet we spent Sunday morning and afternoon visitng the city. Ween to the English Gardens, the German Museum, Residnz and few other places. At 4pm we started hitchhinking back home. Getting out of the city proved difficult and only after 6 we actually caught something but then evrything went smoothly and after 10am next day we were home. :) |
Re: Munich
