Cloudy's Cafe, a conversation zone-April 25, 2008

Previous Cafe is here
Cloudy's Cafe

Come in, be welcome, be comfortable, be yourself

Welcome to Cloudy's Cafe, a place to have a cup of coffee or a good
darjeeling and the finest in conversation and camaraderie.

The proprietor asks that you follow a few simple guidelines:

this is a real conversation zone, not a role-play zone

* no flaming; if you disagree with a viewpoint expressed by any patron, please do so in a civil manner

* any topic is fair game, but keep posts to the standards that Ziroc has set for the entire forum, please (ie: foul language is not appropriate and things should be suitable for all audiences)
-a side note from Cloudy: I see this as a place for those short
conversations about a new baby or the latest soccer fiasco, not for things that are big enough to warrant their own threads, by all means give those things the space they need and post separately!

* Please, no one word or smiley posts (Ziroc has declared them 'real spam' and the proprietor doesn't want the reputuation of "good spam" to suffer!)

* do feel free to be serious or silly and enjoy the company of others while you are here. By all means POST if you have something to say, even to start another topic , we can handle multiple chats, we're a CAFE!!! But be courteous and don't disrupt a conversation just to disrupt it.

Come on in! The bar is stocked with coffees, teas, juices and waters from around the world. And purple napkins, of course!

The lighting is low, the golden oak counters and tables glow with inviting warmth. Near the window, the lighting is brighter, as comfy, plush leather armchairs wait for those who'd like to read a book while relaxing to music or just lazily watch the world go by.

First post! :P

In other news (hey it's been ages since I've posted in Cloudy's) I'm finally finishing uni in June and have already found a job for afterwards. *grin*

PLEASE NOTE

This is a modified reminder that I've posted before in reply to someone asking "can we spam the cafe". It still holds true, so I'm going to repeat it periodically for anyone who hasn't seen it.

Read the first post of the thread, it's NOT a spam zone. If you want to discuss you grades, a problem with a teacher, the weather, your neighbor's new car etc.....etc.. (real life conversations) this is the place. I don't mind a SMALL amount of spam but when the Cafe gets to be 8 pages in one day and it's all one liner pure spam, I have to ask people not to do it because most of the members who would come to talk about their day or things that they want advice or sympathy or cheers on, will not post in that atmosphere. I want you to be comfy here, but not at the expense of other members.

So the answer is NO, I don't want to see page after page of roleplay spam or one liner spamfests that could be done on msn or aim etc. because our goal is to TALK WITH one another , not fill up a cafe in five hours.

Good Morning, dplax! Have some muffins and coffee or tea, fresh this morning! Congrats on the job! What is it? And on the university finish... whoo, that's pretty fantastic too!

Had a wild morning with the new kittens....well they're almost four months old and I've had them since they were barely two months old so not so 'new' as it were.. but they're still MAJORLY full of energy! LOL They were all over the place underfoot this morning so my hubby decided to lock them in the bedroom....now that was a good show... one in, two out...two in, one out... snicker.... :D

Coffee will be fine. At 3 pm on a Friday, when all I'm trying is to get through the next hour before going home...coffee helps. :D Currently I'm doing an internship, which is the last part of my uni course.

After finishing the work I'll be starting in August will be as a junior consultant for a big IT company. I'll most probably working in .NET and Java technologies. Since I guess that's already too much of technological jargon, I'll stop there. :P

Oh and in July...a menace your way goes. :P "Your way" being the US in this case. I'll be heading over to the East Coast cities (and Chicago and Florida) for a little more than three weeks of holidays. :) Am quite looking forward to that.

Kittens are fun. :) Depending on what apartment I get once I start working I might look into getting some sort of pet. Never had anything before so when the time comes, I might come around here for advice.

Hum Cloudy, can I have some blueberry muffins here? I just recently came back from Roanoke, Virginia and they used to have some of those at the office... I miss them now.

I am currently at work attending a conference call, pretty bored and hungry, so I would certainly enjoy the company (and the muffins!).

Anyway, I should present myself. Some might remember me as Ertai_OHF, an old time (very old time) member of these boards. It's been a while since I've been here (except for a very brief visit in 2006) but I think I'm here to stay this time. I miss all the good things that a decent forum community provides, specially having friends all around the world.

I'll be overhearing your conversations for a bit while I take those muffins, have fun :)

Morning, all... or afternoon, si on se trouve en France... ;) Good things going on here... spent the last two days at a customer site making them very happy with me (and less happy with some other consultants who were in previously...). Getting more business out of that, and even more business on *top* of that! Gonna be busier than I've been in a while :D

Downside is that I've not been able to game as much... I don't keep *fun* games on my work laptop, just on general principles. So getting home is getting to bed late, after getting my fix in :heee:

My son had his first baseball game of the season last night, and he was rather impressive! He's only 8, but he did very well in the field, and was responsible for four outs (fielding-wise). Since they only played three innings, and since they have a "5 runs or 3 outs" rule, his ability to put four people out in just two innings was impressive!

Gonna have dinner with him tonight and head to a batting cage so he can get some practice. And I might get some too, just for grins... ;)

Off to Pennsylvania next week for a couple of days, then a Salt Lake City trip in mid-May followed by four days in Chicago/Madison. Life's good on the road... :hehe:

Congrats on finishing up, Dplax, and even more so on the new job! It's great to get started... and as a seasoned consultant, keep on learning! One of my colleagues from years ago (a Frenchman, as it happens) related a story of someone at a client site telling him that there was nothing he could help the client with, since my friend was so young (29, IIRC), and the client had 30 years experience.

My friend replied that while the client had 30 years experience, he actually had just one year, 30 times over. My friend had seven *different* years of experience, and was therefor *more* experienced than the client.

Some people hate it when you point out things like that...

Ahh, Friday,
Nothing like kicking back at the cafe...

Fridays are always good. And it's been oddly cool down here in South Florida for this time of year too.

Anywho, I was just watching some old episodes of Pirates of Dark Water, don't know if anyone remembers the show, but the guy who does the voice for Ioz sounds almost exactly like Yoshimo from BG2.

Hey all. I have finally got a day booked for my driving test. 16th of June or some such.
I took it in mid-April, but failed on a really stupidly small point. It'll cost me over £100 to resit it.
