OK, there's this bug which has happened a lot of times to me, with and without ToB, with and without official and Baldurdash/etc fixes.

Basically it's the moment when you smack the "big bad troll" in Nalia's place (and are a fighter) and also have a romance with Jaheira (or it's one of the possible romances, before you will make a choice). Basically, Nalia tells that she has to think, while down "there", then when you get outside of her "house" she starts to speak, which in the end gives you a choice to manage the whole joint. You agree and then the game will automatically take you to inside. Or will try! Here's the bug - Jaheira romance text in most cases happens only outdoors (must be druid and nature thingie, I guess, heh), so her speech is also "queued"! So as soon as Nalia's done speaking, the game tries to change the area, but then Jaheira's text hits in - and next thing - black screen and that's it. You never end up inside, because Jaheira's dialogue is sort of "open", neither can you leave that black screen, because you can't possibly finish Jaheira's dialogue. And you can't prevent from going inside either, other then refusing to Nalia, I think.

So, this is a darn old bug and it's still there, even after all the possible official and unofficial fixes. ONLY way around it, as it is now, is to get the Jaheira's dialogue BEFORE you smack you-know-whom, which will trigger Nalia's text. If you know this bug, you can avoid it - although it's pesky anyway - but if you don't and didn't say frequently enough, you'll get quite a setback there... Or worse yet - if you saved all games into one savegame, and did so after the fight with you-know-whom, including your Quicksave, then you're totally messed, as the Autosave get's also overwritten...

If you`re getting this bug, go outside before killing the big guy.
Select the protagonist, click the conversation icon (extreme left of your buttons); and click it on Jaheira.

She will have nothing to say to you.

But now, wait. She will talk to you soon. This actually resets the romance timer to about 15 seconds or so (I think, anyway ).

As I wrote, I know how to avoid this bug, having played through BG2 some odd-30+ times :D I know that there are people who STILL just start playing BG2 and this bug can create serious issues for them. Frankly I was surprized to see this bug still be in the game.

Your suggestion is just a "workaround", but not a fix Also, to those who just start the BG2, this is nowhere explained and as I said, can pretty nicely screw things up for them.

Quite possibly it *can`t* be fixed; I haven`t seen anything like it fixed at all; closest thing being one dialogue interupting another dialogue.

Fixing it would involve changing something in the romance such that it can`t happen at this particular map area; which would be difficult. VERY difficult. Unless you want to create some very strange dialogue.

It is seemingly impossible to stop dialogues from happening in specific areas, but bioware have set them up to happen only in areas with certain state flags. Most of the dialogues in the Jaheira romance are set so that they can only happen in an area flagged as outdoors.
As has been proved by the Baldurdash fixpack, it is quite possible to change the state flag of an area via patching, so it would be possible to change the state flag of the outside hold area to something other than Outdoors, BUT-
Party members have dialogue that pops up randomly, based the state flag of the area, or the time of day that it is. An example of this is Minsc's "Cities always team with evil and decay. Let`s give it a good shake and see what falls out!", when in an area flagged as outside in a city.
So, it would be possible to change the flag of outside the hold to something like a Dungeon, but that could lead to dialogues like "Couldn`t we hire some unfortunate fools to do this for us ?? This is... no place for a man of my stature"

well, if they want, they could do it Lady Delcia used to interrupt the guard talk too all the time in the castle, and then it got fixed with a patch (forgot whether official or unofficial). Yes, it's different situation then this particular case, but anyway, if some "brainy" person would put his/her mind to it, they perhaps could figure something out :D

Baldurdash Fixpack.
It is a very different situation; although the bug is similar in the form of a dialgue interupting something, the exact situation is quite different: it is a dialogue interupting a scene change.
Possibly also it could be fixed with a small change to dialogue.tlk , though I doubt it.
Again possibly it has already been fixed, by one of the non-recomended patches; for the record, what patches do you have ??

Another one like this is in Umar hills, if you don't talk to the kids before you talk to the guy that sells the adventure, then the kids interrupt and you can't redo the conversation with the guy that sells the adventure, so can't buy the chicken, then can't get the stone, and then can't upgrade the horn.

A real bummer.
