Icewind Dale HoW....starforced?
 

I've been thinking of re-installing the game, expansion, and Luremaster to relive some infinity engine memories...but I keep reading that Heart of Winter installs Starforce on your Hard Drive. I've suffered with Starforce several times before on other machines and was even responsible for destroying the boot sector of my HD and slagging it entirely.

Basically, I'm wondering if it contains Starforce or if it is, as one site marks it, "Only in some releases"

I have the initial retail release, not the re-issue. Anyone know if that was infected?

I have no idea, I don't even know what star force is, but if you explore the cd you could find out there.

If only it was that easy. In each of the Starforce-using games I have, there is no file or folder within the disc that gives any indication of Starforce being used. Believe me, I've tried that method of detection. Being a PC gamer for 23 years means you know what you're doing...and I'm fully aware of all the tricks.

The glop site is exactly where I got my info. I'm no stranger to the boycott site either.

The problem is that several crack sites I visit (I do not pirate games, I merely apply no CD patches so I don't have to keep swapping discs every time I want to play a new game) list it as being a laserlock protected game, not a starforce game.

I'm still not convinced. I was hoping someone here would go into their hidden device driver list, and see if "SF" was listed. I guess either no one has HoW installed or has no idea how to use device manager.

My device manager does indeed list starforce. Whether that comes from HoW or some other game is less clear. The device manager did provid me with an uninstall option, though, which I then used. I don't know whether that will solve any of starforce's associated problems.

I have HoW and no other starforce game and on my pc starforce doesn't show up.

That website appears to have been compromised. The gamelist link has been redirected to garbage.
