Baltimore cop vs. skateboarding kid

I know this took place last summer, but it's shown up on the national media here today.

Officer. Kid. Skateboarding. Not allowed.

Methinks someone had a bad day, but not as bad as it ended up getting. AFAIK, he's been at least removed from active duty, if not suspended.

Your thoughts?

Who polices the police? They do alot of crazy shit with kids, because most kids are used to being talked down to and don't usually know their rights. Plus, kids scare easier which he obviously knows.

Saw this on another forum, and he obviously went too far. The poor kid was crapping himself.

I keep thinking of a line from Night at the Museum...

Who's evolved? Who's evolved?

One would not expect a 14-year-old to be as evolved as an adult male with 17 years on the force...

And seriously, even if the kid was skateboarding somewhere where he doesn't have the right, taking his skateboard away from him by force is theft, this guy would be in serious trouble over here in Europe...

I think the man-handling going on in the taking of the skateboard is going to result in a major lawsuit. Of course, the verbal assault will compound things.
The whole video seems very stereotypical of the police officer who takes himself very seriously and has a bit too much authority in his own mind (which doesn't match up with his legal authority).

Why was skateboarding banned there anyhow? why do adults still go out of their way to make life hard for kids?

Do skateboards leave skid marks or something on sidewalks? Even so, that doesn't seem like a great reason. I don't honestly know what the reasoning is behind banning skating/skateboarding/cycling is.
