US presidential nominee selection
Ok, I've got a question...why the heck is it so complicated? It almost feels as though the process is so drawn out just for all the suspense and for journalists to have extra work...why can't all states decide on the same day?

Re: US presidential nominee selection
I theorize it exists for me and people like me. See, after a month of Super Bowl malarkey, which does nothing for me and many other people, I think the Powers That Be decided that *we* need a show, too. And what a show! Teams, MVPs, fumbles, but very few tight ends.
Anyway, all joking aside, I have no idea why it's this way. Quite frankly, the things like the Republican winner-take-all-but-Democrats-split thing, deadlines as to when people can vote, party registrations, electronic voting machines, delegates, the ELECTORAL COLLEGE... It all seems a bit... undemocratic. Doesn't it? |
Re: US presidential nominee selection
I think that the primaries were originally staggered in time when there was no mass media. Spreading out the primaries allowed candidates to travel around to the different states and campaign for the nomination.
There really doesn't seem to be much point to it now. |
Re: US presidential nominee selection
And in the end does one person get more votes than the other but then a judge decides who wins? Or am I mixing it up with some other country with a dodgy idea of what democracy is?
