Creating Party

Hello,
I've never played this game and was a big fan of Wiz 8. As such, I like the idea of creating a party to fight. I have read that you only start with one character.

Are the rest just NPC's, or can you create the rest of them like your 1st character?
Thx!

Hi there, and welcome to Ironworks!

The short answer is yes, you start with one character and recruit NPCs to join you.

The long answer follows.

There are ways to create an entire party of your own design, but this is inadvisable for your first run- the NPCs add so much to the game in terms of dialogue and sidequests that you'd want to use them. So have fun, and good luck!

I don't think that some NPCs have such great class combinations or stats, however there is the Shadow Keeper editor, check under the Editors page of the BG2 SoA area of this site.

Please don't!

It's the guy's first game. Let him just play it normally. It definately won't be the end of the world if one NPC has a 17 instead of 18 DEX.

Welcome to the forums homersheineken. If you haven't played BG2 before, you're really in for a treat. I'll second what Illumina said, just start with a character and get 5 NPCs to join. Only after your first run through the game you might want to use editors/mods/unconventional methods.

Have fun and good luck.

To "create" your party by recruiting NPCs, start a single player game.

To create your entire party on your own, start a multiplayer game.

I'd follow Illumina's and ZFR's recommendation and play with the stock NPCs for the first run through the game. You'd miss a lot of (excellent) content otherwise.

Thanks for the input Illumina. That probably makes sense to do that for the 1st run.

I realize we're getting into the spoiler area here, so I'll try and tread lightly, but how soon would one get their full party?

Cheers!

Re: Creating Party

you can get a full party very quickly

you'll have a party of four straight away and once you escape the opening dungeon there's plenty more , easy to pick up

enjoy the game - i'm very jealous :)

We're jealous because the majority of us have played this great game so many times that we can recite the opening scenes of the game in our sleep. :D

Still, you should have a full party fairly soon... and you'll have a great time even sooner!

We no longer have the element of surprise.

Cheers.
