lost one point of constitution?

I am playing Baldur's Gate. Yesterday I found my character's constitution is one point lower than the initial value. But I don't know how it happened. I am a newbie, could anyone give me a hint? Under what conditions will the character's constitution change permanently?
Thanks.

Note to Self: It's probably not a good idea to offhandedly start drinking random unknown potions without first knowing their effects, especially when those potions come from questionable sources.

Is that what those potions can do? Wow, I only ever resold them for a great profit.

The only other thing I can think of is those claw or horn items, but you have to have lot's of gold to get them, and I don't recall offhand what effects they have, I know it's some good some bad, kind of a trade off.

Don't the effects of those 2 potions wear off and reset your stats to normal (I'm talking about the ones from the Carnival)?

Are you perchance playing BGT/BGTuTu and your familiar died?

Those two do, yes, but I'm talking about the ones from the Nashkel Mines. Just because they look like Antidotes . . .

Ahh the all-important read the friggin description clause. I was thinking the potions from the carni myself. And the so-called antidotes are pretty well labeled as not such IIRC, but I'm headed that way myself right now so I'll know soon enough.

and as to the familiar reducing con by a point, I thought that it merely removed the point you gained from having the familiar?

You don't gain point of CON for having a familiar. Just HP.

Almost certain it added one, I mean not by the rules but just by the way the developers made the game work, but then I haven't played in a long time so I probably am wrong.
